Spoken Word/Oratory:
This is your life.
Good to the last drop.
It doesn't get any better than this.
Sometimes we forget this simple fact, and we live unconsciously.
If you never knew that you were alive.
I mean really knew it,
you've always been dead.
Before it happens,
you'll probably look back and take stock of your life.
Leave your livestock alone and remember:
This is your life.
Good to the last drop.
It doesn't get any better than this.
This is your life.
It is right here.
All you have to do is open your eyes and look at it.
The scariest part is figuring out what you want to do before you die.
It isn't a list.
It isn't an opinion poll.
This is one,
simple,
question.
And you have to know the answer.
But first thing's first: Imagine you're dead.
If you were dead,
right now,
what do you wish you would've done before you died?
Why aren't you doing it?
We are the middle children of history, and all middle children have to find their own way.

This was inspired (though I certainly don't consider it inspired, I'm only saying that some of the phrases and all of the ideas came from somewhere) by Daniel Quinn and Chuck Palahniuk.

Very good, Nate. Did you do this at the Steak Knife?
Man, I don't know what I want to do before I die. At least not serious things. I'd kind of like to get some record for fart volume, but that's silly.
It's a hard question to answer, "what ought I to be doing with my life?" I don't have any answer for myself, at least. The problem's balancing strong ideological views with the stuff you need to do every day. On the one hand, your worldview is going to push you in a certain direction, but at the same time there are all these stupid distractions like classes, job, sex, &c that keep you on another track. So how do you balance that stuff? Do you try to shape your worldview around your life as you live it, or your life around your worldview? (I hope that doesn't read as much like bullshit as it does writing it.)
I dunno. You're dead. What do *you* wish you'd done before you died?
What ought I be doing? I should be working in Pecos Texas making $36k/yr. But since I LOOVEEE/HATE smoking pot so much I'm sitting here. I dont know what I really should be doing, all I know is that I'm trying to do something better than what I was doing.
WRITE MORE STUFF
Love,
Jedidiah John Lundeen
Yeah, I performed a slightly different version at the steaknife.
My answer is: Write a book.
The way that I decided to balance my worldview and my necessary survival activities was this: I dropped out of school. Finally, and for the last time.
All I have to worry about is my girlfriend, my answer (to the question), and showing up at work.
And a shitload of things i'm omitting.
Honestly, I don't have much to contribute on the subject right now.
And thank you so much Jed. That's the best compliment I've gotten in a while.
It's nice to know that someone is encouraged to think after reading that oration.
That's what I was going for.
